Who should stay on MoeGo

Starting here because it’s the section most comparison pages skip.

If you run two or more vans, stay. Drive time between appointments is the hardest scheduling problem in this trade, and MoeGo solves it properly. We don’t do route optimisation at all. Neither do most of the alternatives you’ll find in a listicle, though they’ll rarely say so plainly.

If your team already knows it, weigh that heavily. Retraining a salon full of pet groomers on new software costs more real money than most people count. A $30/month saving does not cover two weeks of everybody being slower and crankier.

If you use the deep end of the feature set — heavy automation, complex staff commission structures, high-volume multi-location reporting — you will find most alternatives thin. Including this one.

What MoeGo actually costs, and why it surprises people

MoeGo’s headline prices aren’t high. As of August 2026, mobile plans run $49, $99 and $159 a month, and salon plans run from $79 up to $239. Those are ordinary numbers for this category.

The part that catches people is that the mobile price is per van and the salon price is per location. Two vans on the middle tier is $198 a month before a single text goes out. That isn’t a hidden fee or a gotcha — it’s stated plainly on their pricing page — but it’s a structure that quietly punishes exactly the growth you were hoping the software would help you achieve.

Texts are the second surprise. Each tier bundles a fixed allotment — 200 messages a month at the bottom — and messages past it are charged individually. Pet groomers on review sites and in software directories routinely report $30–$100 a month in text overages, and some report SMS add-ons over $100. We can’t independently verify any particular pet groomer’s bill, so treat those as reported experience rather than fact. What isn’t in dispute is the shape of it: a busy salon confirming and reminding every appointment will move a lot of messages, and on a metered plan the bill moves with them.

Now find your reason

Four reasons account for most of the people who go shopping. Each one has a different right answer.

“The text bill keeps surprising me”

This is the most common one, and it’s the easiest to fix, because it’s a pricing-model problem rather than a software problem. What you want is either a generous bundle you won’t hit or a hard cap that stops rather than bills.

WagBooking includes 400 texts on Solo, 1,000 on Studio, and unlimited on Salon. On Solo and Studio, messages past the bundle are 5¢ each and the overage is capped at $50 a month — after that sending stops rather than the bill continuing. It’s a blunt instrument and it will occasionally annoy you, but you can’t open an invoice and find a number you didn’t expect. That was the trade we chose deliberately.

Teddy also markets unlimited two-way texting against MoeGo’s metering, and their entry plan is $49/month. Worth knowing before you compare that number to ours: online booking and automated reminders start on their next tier up, at $99. If unmetered texting is genuinely the only thing you need fixed, their $49 plan does that and does it well.

“It’s far more software than I need”

A pet groomer working alone doesn’t need multi-location reporting or a commission engine. Feature depth isn’t free even when you ignore it — it shows up as more menus, longer setup, and more places for a new hire to get lost.

Pawfinity, at roughly $25/month, is the honest budget answer here and is cheaper than we are. It’s less polished; that’s the trade. GrooMore has a free tier worth a look if you’re very early.

WagBooking’s Solo plan is $59/month and is intentionally feature-complete rather than feature-limited — online booking, waitlist, contract signing, both reminder types and offline access are all in it. We put the line between plans at how many people work there, not at which features you’re allowed to have. What we gate is roles and staff permissions, review-request texts, rebooking intelligence and analytics, because those genuinely only matter once someone else is on the schedule with you.

Contract signing is also where your cancellation policy lives, and that’s the setting pet groomers most often leave empty. “I can’t get a human when something breaks”

Slow support is the loudest complaint in this whole category and it is not specific to MoeGo — you’ll find the same reviews under every established name in pet grooming software. It’s also the hardest thing to verify before you buy, because every vendor’s website says support is excellent.

Here’s ours, stated so you can hold us to it: every support email is answered by someone who works on the app itself. Not a tier-one queue, not a chatbot. Feature requests get read, and small ones often ship the same week. We’re small enough that this is true, and we’re aware it’s the kind of promise that only means anything once you’ve tested it. Email [email protected] with a hard question before you sign up for anything. Do that to every vendor on your shortlist, actually — the replies will tell you more than any comparison page will.

“It stops working when I lose signal”

This one is niche until it’s you: a basement grooming room, a rural route, a client’s driveway with one bar. Most pet grooming software is a web app that assumes a connection and gets unhappy without one.

We built for this specifically. The schedule, client list and pet profiles load offline; writing notes, changing appointment status, checking a client out and taking photos all work offline; everything syncs when you’re back. A banner tells you which state you’re in so you’re never guessing. We haven’t found another pet grooming tool that advertises this, which either means it’s a real gap or it means nobody else thinks it matters. If you’ve never lost signal at work, ignore this section entirely.

Where WagBooking fits, and where it doesn’t

Switching without losing a week

The switching cost is what keeps most pet groomers on software they’ve already decided to leave. It’s smaller than it looks if you do it in this order.

1. Don’t cancel anything yet. Run the new one alongside the old one. A trial that expires before your current billing cycle ends is a trap; ours is 30 days for this reason.
2. Export first, evaluate second. Pull your clients, pets and appointment history out of MoeGo as CSV on day one. Whatever you decide, you want your own data in your own hands.
3. Hand the import over. Send us the files and we do it — no wizard, no field mapping. Say up front if photos or long-form appointment notes matter to you, because those are the parts that need a human eye.
4. Move one day of the schedule, not all of it. Run a single real day end to end. You’ll learn more in that day than in two weeks of clicking around an empty account.
5. Tell clients only when you’re sure. Your booking link changes; nothing else about their experience needs to.

Questions pet groomers actually ask us about this

Is MoeGo bad?

No. MoeGo is the most feature-complete pet grooming platform on the market, and its route planning for multi-van mobile work is genuinely the best available.

Most pet groomers looking at alternatives aren’t leaving because the software is bad. They’re leaving because the price multiplies with vans or locations, because the text allotment runs out mid-month, or because they’re paying for depth they never touch.

What is the cheapest MoeGo alternative?

Pawfinity, at around $25/month as of August 2026. It covers scheduling, pet profiles, vaccination tracking, reminders and basic POS. The interface is dated next to newer tools.

Can I move my client and pet records over?

Yes. Export clients, pets and appointment history from MoeGo as CSV, email the files to [email protected], and we’ll do the import for you instead of handing you a wizard.

Photos and long-form appointment notes are the parts most likely to need manual attention. Tell us up front if those matter to you.

Do I have to cancel MoeGo before trying something else?

No — and you shouldn’t. Run both for a couple of weeks.

Our trial is 30 days with no credit card, which is deliberately long enough to overlap a MoeGo billing cycle so you never have a gap. Cancel the old one once you’ve taken real bookings on the new one.

Does WagBooking do mobile pet grooming routes?

Not the way MoeGo does. We don’t optimise multi-van routes or calculate drive time between stops.

If you run vans and routing is the reason you bought software in the first place, MoeGo is the better tool. We’d rather say that now than after you’ve moved your data.
